From his early days sampling trains at a Kansas City art school, to his genre defining musical outpourings from the early Detroit house and techno music scenes, Theo Parrish has reached legendary status for the extensive list of disco, techno and house music fused masterpieces he has created, and for his famous 4 – 9hr DJ sets forging long lasting connections to some of the worlds most famous and reputable clubs and festivals – Sonar in Barcelona, Plastic People in London and Club Yellow in Tokyo, to name a few. Having witnessed dance floors exploding at Theo’s previous two visits to Perth, Knowledge Music and {move} are both very excited to announce the return of this dance music maestro – Theo Parrish, Saturday 16th of January, at Shape Nightclub.



 

Alongside legends Moodymann, Carl Craig, Anthony “Shake” Shakir, and select others, Theo Parrish has formed a unique and spiritual approach to jazz, disco, house and techno sounds that has helped define a second generation of dance music from Detroit, the birthplace of house and techno musics.

"Love of the music should be the driving force of any producer, performer or DJ. Everything else stems from that core, that love. With that love, sampling can become a method of tasteful assembly, collage, as opposed to a creative crutch, plagiarism.

 

Using this same understanding openly and respectfully, can turn DJing into spiritual participation. It can turn a few hours of selection into essential history, necessary listening through movement."

It is with this personal philosophy that Theo approaches his distinctive style of dance music and engages his audiences and dance floors all over the world. His sets are renowned for their sustained intensity and sincere approach to music - spiritual, soulful and powerful collages of black music history and future. Expect an extended set from Theo this time round, with sets from the {move} crew’s Ben M, Ben Taaffe and Nikolas Patterson squeezed in on either side if they will fit!
